Rinse the Rice
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear. The rice should look slightly translucent once properly rinsed. Drain well.
Toast the Rice
- In a medium pan over medium-high heat, add the oil. Once warm, add the rinsed rice and toast, stirring occasionally, until some grains begin turning lightly golden. This adds a subtle nutty flavor.
- Remove from heat and transfer the rice to your rice cooker.
Toast the Cumin Seeds
- In the same pan over medium-high heat, add the cumin seeds. Toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until they darken slightly and become fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
- Immediately add the toasted cumin seeds to the rice cooker.
Cook the Rice
- Add water, butter, and salt to the rice cooker. Stir gently to combine.
- Turn the rice cooker to the white rice setting and cook accroding to manufacture instructions.
Fluff and Serve
- Once cooked, let the rice rest for 5 minutes. Fluff gently with a fork and serve warm.
